Intergenerational Virtues and the British Race Riots
How Europe Can Preserve Virtue and Conted with the Global South
Genesis 9:
20 And Noah began to be a husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken, and he was uncovered within his tent.
22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren.
23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
Regardless of political persuasion, all agree that some virtues transcend time and place. The prohibition of murder is perhaps one of the most potent examples of this principle. The same can be said of rape. Objective deontological moral theories, virtue ethics, or even utilitarianism; all are valiant attempts at providing a philosophical foundation for deriving such universal moral obligations; however, an honest analysis of the natural world and a deeper understanding of one’s intuitive decision-making will not make it difficult to ascertain basic principles of proper conduct.
The primary factors contributing to collective human behaviors and idiosyncrasies, namely the development of culture, are largely based on shared temperaments. Following the 1970s, something of a ‘revolution’ took place in genetics research with the proper utilization of DNA technology. It was understood that human behavior is unquestionably derived from genetic material. Despite this, the greater academic community has done its part to forego this explanation for shared cultural temperament. Since the 1950s in fact, the resurrection of the idea of nature in academic discourse has been largely curtailed.1
Cultural Temperament and the Signs of Intergenerational Virtue
It is not an unknown phenomenon nor is it a novel idea to suggest that certain populations exhibit intergenerational trauma as well as patterns of emotional temperament. However, to best exemplify the following points, it is perhaps in the best interest of the reader to consider the following findings:
One of the best-known analyses of genetics and temperament was published in 1974 by Daniel G. Freedman where it was found that, overwhelmingly, identical twins were more similar in temperament than fraternal twins, especially concerning fearfulness, social awareness, and the tendency to smile. The findings provided significant evidence for the idea of temperament heritability. Freedman had also examined 24 newborn Chinese-American infants and 24 newborn White infants of European heritage who were all similar in weight, physical vitality, age of the mother, and length of labor time. It was found that the Chinese-American infants, within 33 hours of being born, were less perturbable, more placid, and more easily consoled than the White infants. The White infants had a greater tendency to move back and forth between states of contentment and discomfort and had an easier time reaching the peak of excitement sooner than the Chinese-American infants.
Genetics plays a key role in developing individual temperament and cultivating intergenerational behaviors.
It is important to understand that the generalized behavior of populations hailing from the ‘Global South’ are significantly more temperamental and communal than their northern counterparts. Hosftfede’s Cultural Dimensions model outlines this phenomenon studiously. For example; people from northern countries exhibit more “individualist” attitudes than those from the southern countries.
Highly individualist cultures are described by Hostfede’s model as placing great importance on the individual unit in decision-making and identity creation. Countries with this generalized attitude include ‘core nations’ found in the northern part of the world, such as Scandinavian and broader Western European cultures.
Blank-slateists would argue that this is the result of one’s environment and that these peculiarities are learned behaviors from the various colorful cultures that curdled over time in this part of the world.
It is safe to say that this is a coping mechanism.
The Sociopolitical Impact of Ignoring Intergenerational Virtue
In 2017, over 60 million people from countries in the Global South, namely Syria, moved northward in an attempt to colonize Europe. This was a 3 million increase since the previous year in 2016. This refugee crisis has rightfully sparked division among European inhabitants following internal cultural schisms and a rise in assaults.
The country of Sweden has suffered a horrific rape crisis since the rise of Global South natives moving into the country. Studies concerning the rise in assaults and other crimes found that almost half of offenders were born outside of Sweden (47.7%). Muslim presence had led to the destruction of Swedish safety.
The country’s many attempts to navigate around these social changes, trying to civilize the newcomers, ended poorly and with little impact on the population.
The Munich New Year’s Eve assaults are another glaring example of how the migrant invasion has deeply affected Europeans, with over 1,200 women being assaulted, sexually or otherwise, on that day.
Fast forward to 2024, things are not looking any better. The wave of “far-right” riots flooding the United Kingdom is a direct response to the incompatible nature of intermingling cultures. The ethnic frictions occurring in the UK right now transcend the slain children who helped spark this conflict, although, very tragic. This racial conflict was a long time coming.
These conflicts are not limited to cultural differences nor is it solely the result of corrupted officials weaving webs of discord. There is a clear, defined line between the ethnic backgrounds engaging one another.
Dealing with Intergenerational Vice
The intergenerational behaviors perpetuated by the Arab and Sub-Saharan ethnicities are in direct contrast with behaviors of what I collectively dub the broader West.
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand. — Surat An-Nisa' [4:34] - The Noble Qur'an - القرآن الكريم
It is evident that culture and religious custom is a byproduct of genetic material and has been primarily perpetuated through the breeding program of said culture. We see this more so with Abrahamic religions; including Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Such breeding programs are made to function as an exaltment of specific temperaments of said population.
Genetic offshoring has overwhelmingly proven the incapability of certain ethnicities to properly assimilate in other areas. Although it is wise to evaluate this process on a case-by-case basis, in dire times like this, at risk of being reductive, it is perhaps more efficient to presently view these situations as a Global North versus Global South dichotomy. Specific indicators, such as national religion and cultural custom, also help with the evaluation of what ethnicities are conducive to lead into a host nation; but, at least for now, many northern countries do not seem very open to inviting large swaths of principally alien and abusive cultures.
